We don’t have a coffee maker, so can I just boil the ground coffee beans in a pot and then drain the beans out?

The odor itself is coming from the steam. After it’s done brewing, the coffee tastes fine and the pot doesn’t seem to smell. How do i clean a coffee maker to possibly rid of this smell?

Will keeping them in the freezer help them stay fresh, or will it have the opposite effect?
